System requirements for Advent Portfolio Exchange 2.0 last updated on 4/30/2008.
Advent Portfolio Exchange Release 2.0 is installed on a two-server configuration where the database components reside on a separate server from other application services. Each server should be dedicated to APX and not shared by other applications for application stability and performance. (See hardware requirements below for details.) Additional report servers may be added to the environment to increase simultaneous report requests.
Support for three-server configurations (Database, Application and Web Server components installed on separate servers) will be introduced later as an update to APX 2.0.
Database Server
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, Standard and Enterprise Editions (SP1 and above) 32-bit and 64-bit supported
- Other Microsoft Server editions, such as the following, are NOT supported:
- Windows Small Business Server 2003
- Windows 2003 Server Web Edition
- Windows 2003 Server Datacenter Edition
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Standard and Enterprise Editions (SP1 and above) 32-bit and 64-bit

- The Microsoft SQL Server 2005 instance must be installed with SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS (codepage 1252) (a.k.a. SQL collation - Dictionary order, case-insensitive, for use with 1252 Character Set) as the collation method. Exceptions for Greek and Arabic language support are available as of APX 2.0 Update 3. Contact your Advent representative for more details.
- Microsoft Server Desktop Engine, Workgroup, Personal, and Small Business Server Editions are not supported.
- Database server clustering is supported for certain configurations.
- Two nodes only: APX 2.0 has only been certified on a two-node cluster.
- Single cluster storage device: Both nodes share a single physical storage device (single quorum device server cluster): Disks in the storage device are typically redundant (e.g. RAID 10).
- Active-Passive configuration: APX also supports Active-Active configurations. However, we strongly recommend that you have a Passive node in the cluster with enough idle resources to run APX in the case of a failover.
- VMware and Microsoft Virtual Server are NOT supported.
- If you install 64-bit Microsoft Operating System, you must also install Microsoft SQL Server 2005, x64 Standard or Enterprise Edition (SP1 and above).
