Advent and Thomson Financial Join Forces to Bring Sophisticated Tools to Investment Management Community

San Francisco, CA, and New York, NY, April 22, 2002 - Advent Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: ADVS) and Thomson Financial, an operating unit of the Thomson Corporation (TSE: TOC), announced today that special editions of three of Thomson’s leading brands, Vestek, First Call and AutEx, have been customized for Advent’s investment management clients and seamlessly integrated into Advent’s software solutions. These interoperable workflow solutions are part of an agreement between Advent and Thomson Financial. This relationship will deliver unprecedented best-of-breed, bundled decision and operational support solutions to enable Advent clients in the asset management marketplace be more efficient in their jobs and make more effective investment decisions.

Integration between Advent and Thomson Financial is made possible by Advent’s “MyAdvent” Internet-enabled business desktop application and Advent’s “SmartClick” integration technology. Advent’s SmartClick-based integration between Advent and Thomson Financial allows users to travel seamlessly between applications, significantly improving user workflow and enhancing the value of the combined products. Thomson Financial is the first of Advent’s Technology Platform Partners, and the two companies will continue to work together to expand the base of products and services they bring to the asset management marketplace.

The relationship between the two companies extends Advent’s front and mid-office solutions to include performance attribution, equity research and indication of interest functionality. And with access to Advent’s large investment management client base, focused primarily on firms with less than $500 million in assets under management, the relationship brings high quality products and services to a broad audience of firms to whom products of this caliber might have been previously inaccessible.

Thomson Financial Solutions Customized for MyAdvent
Thomson Financial has developed customized editions of three offerings for Advent clients: Vestek Portfolio Analyzer, First Call Analyst and AutEx Interactive.

Vestek portfolio analytics information, including daily performance data for user-specified indices and time periods, will be integrated with MyAdvent. In addition, three new Vestek offerings have been developed exclusively for MyAdvent.
· Vestek Comparative Profile combines performance graphics and portfolio characteristics in a single page to help managers explain their investment philosophy to clients.
· Vestek Attribution Overview enables firms to communicate vital summary information about the sources of performance at the security and sector levels.
· Vestek Performance Attribution allows investment managers to effectively review the sources of portfolio performance with clients, consultants and colleagues.

Thomson Financial has developed a customized version of First Call Analyst for Advent clients, seamlessly integrated with the MyAdvent platform. The MyAdvent edition of First Call Analyst is a Web-based investment research tool providing MyAdvent clients with integrated access to:
· First Call real-time equity broker-sourced research reports
· I/B/E/S analyst forecast estimates
· Datastream historical pricing
· First Call Webcast Events
· Carson institutional holdings data

First Call Analyst content is coupled with sophisticated functionality, enabling Advent clients to export all data to Microsoft Excel for additional analysis and for use in their models, and to calculate customized consensus estimates based on their own criteria.

AutEx Interactive is a decision support tool and single source window for buy-side investment management firms to view global liquidity and real-time market intelligence. By providing a snapshot view of global pre-trade liquidity, a consolidated view of indications of interest (IOI), and current and historical rankings of sell-side trade volume, AutEx Interactive helps the user find the other side of the trade with ease. In addition, it generates graphs commingling IOIs with ILX pricing information to indicate whether buy or sell-side pressure is affecting price. AutEx Interactive is cost effective, providing both comprehensive pre-and post-trade information and access to global liquidity from more than 300 broker dealers and ECNs/ATSs worldwide.
