Advent Software Unveils 2005 Trends for Trade Order Management Industry

San Francisco, CA, January 4,  2005 - As the trade order management industry enters into a new year, Advent Software (NASDAQ: ADVS) today revealed what it predicts will be the top five TOMS trends for 2005. Based on the company’s deep experience in the industry and ongoing feedback from its 650 TOMS clients, Advent forecasts that the 10 year-old industry will encounter the following developments:

  • Trading Networks Will Consolidate – The industry will continue to move toward standards in connectivity, and lower commissions will lead to competitive networks sharing smaller portions of the commissions pie;
  • Asset Managers Will Get Further Into The Game – More and more traditional asset managers will flock to alternative investments, while the continued growth of fund of funds will be the next big investment vehicle for the retail investor;
  • Compliance Outsourcing Will Be Hot – Scrutiny in the compliance environment will continue to heighten and service firms will offer “compliance outsourcing” to meet the new demands;
  •  Multicurrency Capabilities Will Be Imperative – As mergers and acquisitions continue, as well as the globalization of previously domestic investment managers, multi-currency capabilities will take center stage with OMS vendors;
  •  TOMS Vendors Will Evolve Their Services – With major functionality requirements met, TOMS vendors will look to decrease their stand alone prices, while broadening their offerings through acquiring portfolio management companies and starting trading networks.

“As an industry, we’ve witnessed several changes in 2004 – from increased regulatory demands to globalization – all of which will continue to affect how we do business in 2005. We’re also seeing some new developments on the horizon such as consolidation among networks and the need for vendors to evolve their services in fresh directions,” said Mike Gamson, director of Advent’s trade order management and compliance group. “By staying ahead of these developments, we hope to better meet the changing needs of our own clients, while influencing the future of the TOMS industry.”
