We sat down with Pete O’Brien, Senior Vice President of SS&C MineralWare to discuss how the platform is navigating industry change, the innovations driving its roadmap, and the opportunities set to define the next era of mineral management.

You’ve been part of SS&C MineralWare’s journey through an evolving industry. When you think about the company’s core mission, simplifying mineral management, how does that shape your priorities for the next few years?

When we look towards the future, we expect more tech-enabled businesses to continue entering the upstream ecosystem. This creates a meaningful opportunity for MineralWare to focus on where our clients need us most. For mineral owners, the industry feels fragmented, fast-changing, and increasingly complex. Our priority is to simplify engagement by integrating those new services into MineralWare, consolidating fees, and delivering a clearer, more accessible experience.

The mineral management space is seeing a wave of new solutions across research, analysis, valuations, and more. How is MineralWare positioning to lead in this growing ecosystem?

As a broader menu of options enters the market, mineral owners are feeling overwhelmed. Thousands of mineral owners rely on us to streamline mineral management and bring clarity to that complexity. We're intentionally inviting select partners and solutions into our ecosystem and building long-term relationships, ensuring they add value to our client base while meeting our standards of service and usability.

Every company has its differentiators. When you look at MineralWare’s roadmap, where do you see the platform going that others aren’t?

MineralWare's strategy isn't changing. Our roadmap continues to be guided by three core pillars: one-stop-shop, simplicity, and service. As the platform evolves, our focus is on preserving an intuitive, easy-to-use experience, even as we expand our list of services, partners, and customization options. We’re also deepening our integration with wealth management solutions, enabling clients to view their mineral data as part of their holistic wealth management portfolio.

For mineral managers who haven’t explored MineralWare recently, what changes or innovations will surprise them most?

Anyone who hasn’t seen MineralWare since 2023 would be surprised by the transformation of our Revenue and Land modules. We made significant investments to ensure these core modules deliver the performance, usability, and customization our clients expect. Another area that stands out is the depth of our reporting capabilities, from standard P&L reporting to thousands of configurable options within our Custom Reports module. Finally, our integrations with Energy Domain, Pecan Tree, and Mineral Answers are unlocking meaningful new value for clients.

Looking ahead, what trends or shifts in mineral management do you think will have the biggest impact? How is MineralWare preparing for them?

As Baby Boomers retire, mineral ownership is entering a period of significant transition. Assets are being divided across generations and increasingly held within trusts, adding new layers of complexity to mineral management.

To prepare for this shift, MineralWare is expanding its land services arm to support clients who need additional help with the movement of assets. At the same time, MineralWare's trust module combined with integration with SS&C's Trust Accounting services, positions us to seamlessly support assets held in trust and managed by trust companies and banks.

With the accelerated transformation happening in mineral management, complexity will inevitably increase along with the need for smart solutions. MineralWare is expanding services, deepening integrations, and simplifying the experience.
