Investment firms are under pressure to manage more data across increasingly complex systems. At Deliver 2025, SS&C Advent explored how modern platforms like Genesis are helping firms tackle this challenge head-on.
In the session Enabling Insights: Simplify Data Management for Better Outcomes, SS&C’s Javier Flores, director of solutions management, welcomed Romaric Dautun, director of investment portfolio systems at CAPTRUST, a hybrid institutional and wealth manager based in Raleigh, North Carolina, to the stage to share his perspective on why data management is a strategic priority for CAPTRUST and how Genesis fits into the firm’s long-term vision.
Data Management Takes Center Stage
Recent research conducted with Institutional Investor found that 89% of investment managers rank enterprise-wide data management a top priority for the next 3–5 years. CAPTRUST’s experience was in line with this finding. With over $1 trillion in assets under management and administration and accounts spread across more than 150 custodians, the firm faced significant complexity in managing operational and analytical data workflows.
Embracing Real-Time Connectivity
Like many firms, CAPTRUST relied on a combination of disjointed systems with minimal API and cloud capabilities. This created data silos, forcing teams to adopt manual processes such as spreadsheet imports and exports. These inefficiencies made it difficult to scale and introduced operational risk.
For CAPTRUST, the goal was clear: Improve data quality, enable near real-time connectivity and adopt a solution that integrates seamlessly with its CRM to simplify workflows and free up more time for advisors to focus on clients.
CAPTRUST Selects Genesis to Drive Cloud-Native Transformation and Scalable Growth
CAPTRUST evaluated multiple options before selecting Genesis. It was the platform’s cloud-native architecture, robust API framework and ability to connect across the investment lifecycle that stood out. Genesis will support the firm’s fixed-income trading and full IBOR, while delivering weekly functionality updates to keep pace with the firm’s evolving needs.
CAPTRUST is taking a phased approach to implementation. Early steps include migrating a subset of accounts and connecting trade execution tools. Future phases will focus on scaling account coverage and introducing features like Unified Managed Accounts (UMA) to enhance advisor efficiency and create a single point of entry for portfolio management.
Genesis Provides AI-Driven Capabilities at CAPTRUST
CAPTRUST’s long-term vision extends beyond connectivity. By adopting Genesis, the firm gains a cloud-native platform with a robust API framework—critical for powering advanced analytics. Genesis not only streamlines operational workflows but also creates a cleaner, more unified data environment and increases CAPTRUST’s access to AI tools for client record searches and model performance queries, helping CAPTRUST turn data into actionable intelligence at scale.
Practical Guidance for Investment Managers Modernizing Tech
During the Deliver session, CAPTRUST emphasized the importance of understanding integration needs upfront—whether batch file processing or API-based—and ensuring tight alignment between your data stack and chosen platform. Dautun shared that vendor support and expertise, and ecosystem fit are critical to achieving smooth data flows and unlocking the full potential of your investment technology.
